Who got the game unlocked?

South Africa has a lot of talented rappers .Most of  them have no idea that Public Relations exist no wonder their music doesn't go nowhere. I'm not dissing anybody I'm just telling it like it is. The key to make it is a good public relations strategy because talent is a brand therefore people need to see it and feel it. The best way to create a hype for a mix tape or an album is to have a campaign. The best way to create the hype for your production is to brand it before you even begin to record it . And another way is to create a YouTube page ,where you post videos of yourself recording in the booth, and a tweet about it constantly and mention other rappers you working with and update your Facebook status more often. This last strategy is mostly used in the hip-hop industry, all you have to do is print T-shirts with the name of your album printed in the front and give them away for free to me that's free advertising.

I'm not an expert in hip-hop but I know for a fact that before you make it you need to do a lot of mix-tapes and free performances to build a fan base and get your music heard. In south Africa there's two well known hip-hop magazines ,which are Hype magazine and Ispeakhiphop. Underground rappers send their mix tapes to those magazines and that gives them a better chance to be featured on the following issue. You got the keys all have to do is unlock game (industry or hip-hop game) and that's only possible with a good PR strategy. You don't need a record deal to make it in the commercial world .You have to use the keys that PR provided and the rest is history.

  3. Ye Angie ,i feel bad for our rap artists because they all have the same dream and that is signing a recording. To me is stupid because Soulja boy made it without a record deal. He just had a good PR strategy that branded his music

  4. Yes its a very tough industry. Its either you play smart or you get completely shut off. The music industry is not bout whether you can sing anymore. Its just bout how your brand is marketed.

  5. I totally agree with you. Look at Soulja boy his whack but his doing it big but good rappers like Hopsin don't even get half of the fame his getting because of the lack a good PR strategy

  8. Good story Mr Nyathi, but my why isn't broken into parts? I reed it to end and trust it wasn't an easy job. Take that into consideration next time.

Now back to the subject, you mentioned that the best way to create hype for your production is to brand it before you even begin to record it. Are you awere that branding also costs money? Is that mean a poor individual-musician like me won't get any hype without branding?

    1. I don't understand your first line of comment but yeah man it's very hard to make it in the entertainment industry without a strategic PR. Money it's not really the subject you don't need money to post videos of your live recordings on youtube to engage with your fans.

  13. If you are passionate about your God given talent is best to familiarize yourself with the latest technology and social media because your fans use social mdia tointeract with one another . You don't have to have a lot of money to have a proper campaign you just have to use free media first then the rest will follow.

  14. I agree with you but what we most bear in mind is that not everyone will love or listen to hip hop music, i am personally a fan but that does not mean i want to hear about someone rapping about a Bugatti where is they drive a Toyota what happened to being real?I just think rappers need to rap about real things than maybe we would be interested in hearing they music and also a PRP's cant just represent someone who has no potential to attract the crowd.

    1. LOL true i agree with you the content of hiphop music nowadays is all about materialistic things, but it's entertaining than deep rap ,the people want to hear bangers and twerk songs not sad emotional songs. PR it's not aimed at improving the content of the music but it's aimed at branding the artist and his /her music.

  19. HipHop my lingo!! You are right about how South African rappers fail to sell, especially the upcoming rappers who have no clue of putting themselves out there. PR exists for a reason and they should scout how the industry works before they start making moves.

  20. Boy, as you said that you not an expert. you have raised all good points here. The game needs different strategies. "Siz and Scoop" is also another good way to be heard, especially by producers.

  21. Haha you're right mayne couldn't agree less . You could think of 'Gingerbread man' the way he gets he's music heard I was even more surprised that he was the 1st "underrated!!" rapper in SA to get verified!!!! I mean AKA the prince of hiphop in SA is not verified and he's well know more then 'Gingerbread man' !! Good strategy and game plan on how to make your self visible to the industry is vital and important and of course winning fans :)
