South Africa has a lot of talented rappers .Most of them have no idea that Public Relations exist no wonder their music doesn't go nowhere. I'm not dissing anybody I'm just telling it like it is. The key to make it is a good public relations strategy because talent is a brand therefore people need to see it and feel it. The best way to create a hype for a mix tape or an album is to have a campaign. The best way to create the hype for your production is to brand it before you even begin to record it . And another way is to create a YouTube page ,where you post videos of yourself recording in the booth, and a tweet about it constantly and mention other rappers you working with and update your Facebook status more often. This last strategy is mostly used in the hip-hop industry, all you have to do is print T-shirts with the name of your album printed in the front and give them away for free to me that's free advertising.

I'm not an expert in hip-hop but I know for a fact that before you make it you need to do a lot of mix-tapes and free performances to build a fan base and get your music heard. In south Africa there's two well known hip-hop magazines ,which are Hype magazine and Ispeakhiphop. Underground rappers send their mix tapes to those magazines and that gives them a better chance to be featured on the following issue. You got the keys all have to do is unlock game (industry or hip-hop game) and that's only possible with a good PR strategy. You don't need a record deal to make it in the commercial world .You have to use the keys that PR provided and the rest is history.
What most people don't understand is that hiphop artist make a lot of money therefore they need to be smart and take PR into consideration
ReplyDeletethat is so true,i should say that most artist are not known in in other countries and in south africa itself and they wonder why we play american hip hop..That is becaouse most of the south african hip hop are not known because they are not being promoted.Like you said talent is there but what they need is how to use p.r
ReplyDeleteYe Angie ,i feel bad for our rap artists because they all have the same dream and that is signing a recording. To me is stupid because Soulja boy made it without a record deal. He just had a good PR strategy that branded his music
ReplyDeleteYes its a very tough industry. Its either you play smart or you get completely shut off. The music industry is not bout whether you can sing anymore. Its just bout how your brand is marketed.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. Look at Soulja boy his whack but his doing it big but good rappers like Hopsin don't even get half of the fame his getting because of the lack a good PR strategy

Deletewell ladies and gents Pr is very important like my brother says but lets not forget that quality is important as well. but I'm all for promoting our artists
ReplyDeleteTrue ,but remember you can have a quality sound but if your sound is not branded well it's going to be a Huge failure for you and your brand to be recognized by your target public's.
Deleteglad to see ur making small moves that will lead into big ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks man just doing what i have to do to assists those who need help.
DeleteGood story Mr Nyathi, but my why isn't broken into parts? I reed it to end and trust it wasn't an easy job. Take that into consideration next time.
ReplyDeleteNow back to the subject, you mentioned that the best way to create hype for your production is to brand it before you even begin to record it. Are you awere that branding also costs money? Is that mean a poor individual-musician like me won't get any hype without branding?
I don't understand your first line of comment but yeah man it's very hard to make it in the entertainment industry without a strategic PR. Money it's not really the subject you don't need money to post videos of your live recordings on youtube to engage with your fans.
DeleteWith PR strategy put well into place, there is no doubt that you will get fruitful results with branding and other marketing related campaigns that will accelerate your publicity as an artist.
ReplyDeleteTrue Mr ,nothing can beat a well planned strategy
ReplyDeleteThis is a good platform to help those who are still in the dark. Good job man.
ReplyDeletewhat about those who dont know anythning about youtube? there are people out there who have the talent but they dont know where to take their doma to. a good public relation strategy also need money to make it real, now days is also about knowing people.
ReplyDeleteIf you are passionate about your God given talent is best to familiarize yourself with the latest technology and social media because your fans use social mdia tointeract with one another . You don't have to have a lot of money to have a proper campaign you just have to use free media first then the rest will follow.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you but what we most bear in mind is that not everyone will love or listen to hip hop music, i am personally a fan but that does not mean i want to hear about someone rapping about a Bugatti where is they drive a Toyota what happened to being real?I just think rappers need to rap about real things than maybe we would be interested in hearing they music and also a PRP's cant just represent someone who has no potential to attract the crowd.
ReplyDeleteLOL true i agree with you the content of hiphop music nowadays is all about materialistic things, but it's entertaining than deep rap ,the people want to hear bangers and twerk songs not sad emotional songs. PR it's not aimed at improving the content of the music but it's aimed at branding the artist and his /her music.

ReplyDeleteI respect your thoughts on this one sir, and still I think that is becuase hip hop is for an elite market, not many understand it, so PR is thefore in need to change peoples perceptions and all.
ReplyDeletethanks for the positive comment
Deletemos def buddy, ya got to have Pr stunt, to make it in the game, if not, you got to be better lyrically, and whe you spit, other than ya gonna be jus like other rappers thst we know.
ReplyDeleteThere skill can enhanced throurh PR ,thanks for your comment.
Deletethats a good blog keep it up sir
ReplyDeleteThanks Mr Chabalala ,thanks for the comment
ReplyDeleteHipHop my lingo!! You are right about how South African rappers fail to sell, especially the upcoming rappers who have no clue of putting themselves out there. PR exists for a reason and they should scout how the industry works before they start making moves.
ReplyDeleteTrue dawg so am here for them ,i finna help them understand PR
DeleteBoy, as you said that you not an expert. you have raised all good points here. The game needs different strategies. "Siz and Scoop" is also another good way to be heard, especially by producers.
ReplyDeleteThanks man ,just doing my best
DeleteHaha you're right mayne couldn't agree less . You could think of 'Gingerbread man' the way he gets he's music heard I was even more surprised that he was the 1st "underrated!!" rapper in SA to get verified!!!! I mean AKA the prince of hiphop in SA is not verified and he's well know more then 'Gingerbread man' !! Good strategy and game plan on how to make your self visible to the industry is vital and important and of course winning fans :)
ReplyDeleteTrue dawg if all those rappers could use PR as a form strategy to brand themselves and their music ,our hip-hop will be very interesting #goodpoint
DeleteShortage of skills and lack of knowledge!! And of course the always in it for a few bitches (1st thing on their mind and money -__-)
ReplyDeleteTrue dawg, these rappers nd to get their gimmick on,
ReplyDeleteneed to get their gimmick on and stop imitating other rappers especially international rappers
DeleteHip hop is a very strong popular culture in our world and with such great publicity. For a hip hop artist to make it to the top he/she should be unique and have a good prp to sustain his/her image.
ReplyDeleteTrue but most of those artist are lazy and don't understand the power of Public Relations
DeletePR is in-deed important because it helps promote and make one a very well-known person.
ReplyDeleteMost artist that are well known is because they are very good at what thy do but because they understand PR
DeleteThanks to everyone that commented and viewed my blog you are good people.
ReplyDeleteNice one,PR is indeed a language on its own for all platforms and with Hip Hop you just have to know how to play your game with relevent people
